Big Choir aims to raise big money for foodbank

A renowned local choir and conductor are performing a special Queen's Coronation Jubilee Proms at the Hastings Centre opposite the Conquest Hospital to raise money for Hastings Foodbank.

Under conductor Roger Wilcock, the Hastings Big Choir recently performed a hugely successful event to a crowd of 2,000 in Alexandra Park when they presented the Battle of Hastings Proms the night before the Beer Festival. At the foodbank fundraiser on Saturday 27th July they will sing set pieces from shows, opera and the traditional Last Night at the Proms favourites. All proceeds from the event will go to Hastings Foodbank, and the tickets include an encouragement to attendees to donate an item of food on the night from the list found on the back of the ticket.

Choir member Doug Edwards said, "Hastings Big Choir is delighted to be able to support this fantastic cause. Today in Hastings there are over 5,500 children living in poverty. Families are struggling to put food on the table. For people on low incomes, a sudden crisis-redundancy, benefit delay or even an unexpected bill can mean going hungry. Every day parents skip meals to feed their children and people are forced to choose between paying the rent and eating. Hastings Foodbank provides emergency food and support to local people in crisis."

Tickets are £5 and are available from the Hastings Information Centre, the Hastings Centre on The Ridge and John Newman's Dry Cleaners at 62 Bohemia Road.

Doug added, "We are delighted to be able to hold this fundraising event for the Hastings Foodbank. Audience participation by wearing red, white and blue, hats and waving Union Jacks is actively encouraged. Tickets are strictly limited so don't delay!"

Parking at the event will be free. For more information and ticket sales, call the Hastings Centre on 01424 753322.
