Made Alive!

We have been raised to new life

In this passage, Paul emphasises that before they came to know Jesus, the Ephesians had been dead in their sins, separated from God. They were hopeless and helpless, unable to do anything about their situation. Like us before we were saved they were in a cul-de-sac leading to death, but were blind to it. They were living under the prince of the power of the air, destined for God’s wrath.

Because of Jesus sacrifice for their sins, a miracle of regeneration had taken place. As they responded to God’s initiative of grace reaching out to them they had been born again. They were now raised up with Christ and seated with him in the heavenly places.

God’s grace to the Ephesians and to us comes, not because we have earnt it, but purely as a result of God’s love for us. We receive this grace completely by faith as the Holy Spirit helps us to grasp and take hold of God's promises for us. Because this grace is unearned, unmerited and unwarranted we have no grounds for boasting.

Seated and Secure

After Jesus death he ascended into heaven and is now seated at the right hand of God. These verses tell us that we are now raised up and seated with Him in heavenly places. Jesus is now victorious over the evil one. If we are in Christ we too have the victory and we can live out our lives from this place.

Although physically we are here on the earth our true home is in heaven with Jesus. Because we have been saved through Jesus and brought into the family of the Father, we cannot be separated from him. We are secure for eternity, our lives hidden in Christ.

Created to Work and Walk Like Jesus

Christianity is about staying close to Jesus. Our goal must be to abide in Him and as we live from this place we will display Him to the world. We don't need to work for our salvation. We work from all that Jesus has won for us.

Verse 10 tells us that “we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” When people encounter us we want them to encounter the Jesus that lives within us.

The love the Father has for us brings rest and security. We can live and operate from this place of His love. We need to live from this place each day.

The King and his kingdom is breaking in on earth through us. That is the authority we carry. When there is sickness, grief, depression, we can release God's peace and joy into those situations.
