Jesus on Guilt

We read in the Bible that Pilate found Jesus completely innocent, guilty of no wrong (see Luke 23:1-25). But Barabbas was guilty, a notorious criminal imprisoned for insurrection and murder. Yet Jesus was sentenced to death and Barabbas went free. Jesus died in his place, just as He died in our place, and Barabbas went free, just as we can go free.

It is a fact that we – like Barabbas – are guilty as charged. If we don't know Him and we feel guilty about the things we have done, that's good, because it can lead us to Jesus and He can forgive our sins and proclaim us innocent and clean.

As well as the fact of our guilt, we can also feel guilt about things we’ve done. Again, this guilt can be good and well placed if we are Christians playing around with sin, because this guilt should lead us back to Jesus, where we find freedom and forgiveness.

For some of us, we feel guilt and shame because of things done to us – things that can leave us feeling stained and dirty. But the blood of Jesus cleanses and purifies and takes away all stains and guilt.

Whether you are guilty or you feel guilty, come to Jesus, because He offers freedom from both the fact of our guilt and our feelings of guilt!
